Video motif: a newness that overwrites the past without engaging with history; from Iain Sinclair’s triptych for property marketing material: ’just the wind in the trees; reflections of clouds; plashing water falling on stone.’ Spoken text clipped from Iain Sinclair’s elegy about climate crisis, Bad News (LRB, 1990), which already then put the crisis in blinding focus.
Each video motif maps to a climate threat. Clouds: first manifestation of weather/climate, bellwether - castrated ram leading the flock; water - sea level rise, genesis narrative - great deluge and then Goya’s dog, drowning (also castrated/bodyless). Also water equals piss in my videos - the libidinal fluid - mingling concepts high above comprehension; trees: threat! from instability - shakespeare: ‘when yellow leaves, or none, or few do hang’ - erratic, moveable things. it’s all about the music though!
